How to create a Free Trial in Heartbeat

1. Create or Edit your Offer

How to: Go to Admin Settings > Payments > Offers

2. Under Payment Settings on the Pricing step, select "Enable free trial"

Can I customize my free trial for each membership tier?

If your offer includes multiple tiers, you can set different free trial durations for each tier. To enable this option:

  • Locate the gear icon next to the trial duration field.
  • Click the gear icon to expand tier-specific trial settings.
  • Adjust the free trial duration for each tier as needed.



How do I collect payment upfront on a trial?

When you set up your trial, selecting "Require payment information upfront" will allow you to pick between:

  • Require Payment Method: Members need to add their payment information before starting the free trial.

  • Skip Payment Method: Members will not be prompted to enter their payment information when starting the free trial. After the trial expires, they will be prompted to either enter their payment information or cancel their subscription.

Can I give unlimited free trials?

Free trials can only be offered for a set number of days. It is not possible to provide unlimited free trials.


If I add a free trial after already having members in my Offer, will the changes affect all members or just new ones?

Trial settings can be updated anytime within the offer’s configuration, but changes will only apply to new members.


What is the default pricing option for Freemium Offers?

Free trials are automatically enabled as the default pricing option for freemium offers.

 

Can members redeem their free trials multiple times?

Members can only redeem one free trial per offer. This ensures fairness and prevents members from abusing the free trial feature.

 

Do members on a trial get automatically notified once it's finished?

Notifications or emails when members finish their free trial are not automatically sent. To set this up manually, configure Stripe to send notification emails before a payment is made.

 


 

What Community Members See 

 

 

  • The checkout page will state the number of days free before a charge is made. Members can also see the total pricing and the exact date they will start being charged.
