Heartbeat provides a security feature that helps protect your events from unauthorized access. The feature masks all your event links with a pre-generated link that authenticates users.
If your members have canceled their subscriptions or left your community, they won't be able to access your events through the calendar invites.
How Protected Event Links Work
-
Link Masking: Each of your event links (Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, etc.) will be replaced with a link that looks like "
heartbeat. chat/eventRedirect/{unique_token}
". -
Authentication Check: When a user clicks on the link, Heartbeat does a check to ensure their user account has access to the event.
-
Access Control: Authorized users are redirected to the actual event link. Unauthorized users are notified of restricted access and prompted to join the community or renew their membership
An added benefit is that even if you change the Zoom link at the last minute, your members can still access the event using the redirect.
When Heartbeat sends event invites via email, protected links are used to prevent removed users from accessing old event links. However, community members on your event page will see the direct link to the event and not the protected link since the platform knows they have access to your community or the event.
Frequently Asked Questions:
What Happens if an Unauthorized User Tries to Access the Redirect Link?
Unauthorized users will be notified that they do not have access to the event and will be prompted to join the community or renew their membership if they wish to gain access.
Can Former Members Access Events through Redirect Links?
No, former members who have canceled their subscriptions or left the community cannot access events through redirect links. The authentication check ensures only current members can join.
What Happens if I Change the Event Link (e.g., Zoom) Last Minute?
Even if you change the event link last minute, the protected redirect link remains the same. Members will still be able to access the event through the unchanged Heartbeat link, simplifying last-minute updates
Are Event Redirects Automatically Generated?
Yes, when you create an event in Heartbeat, the platform automatically generates a protected redirect link. You don't need to take any additional steps to create this link
