There are two ways to link to a document inside your Heartbeat community:
Option 1: Use the Permalink
-
Open the document
-
Click the three-dot menu in the top right corner
-
Select Permalink
-
Paste the link wherever you want
Document links are permanent. They stay valid after your community moves to Resources, and older /wiki/… links redirect to the same document at its new /resources/… address, so anything you shared before the update keeps working.
Option 2: Use the Dollar Sign Shortcut
If you're linking a document inside Heartbeat, just type $ in any comment or post. A menu will appear. Start typing the name of the document and select it from the list.
Heartbeat will automatically insert a clean embed-style preview of that document with the correct link.
Why link to a document?
Here are a few common use cases:
-
Link a document in a welcome post or onboarding flow
-
Reference a how-to guide when answering member questions in chat
-
Connect documents across your course lessons or announcements
-
Quickly surface a document for your mods or admins to review
Sharing a whole Resource outside your community
The links above point at a single document inside your community. If you want to share a Resource with people who are not members, publish it publicly first. A publicly published Resource gets its own short link at /r/<name>. To copy it, click the three-dot menu on the Resource card and choose Share.
