How to Set Your Community's Language

  • Updated

Your entire member experience (buttons, navigation, notifications, checkout flows, course progress, events, and more) can now render in your community's language. Set it once, and every member sees a translated UI instantly.

Supported languages: Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, and German. English is the default.

How to set your community's language

  1. Go to Settings > General Settings
  2. Find the Language setting
  3. Select your preferred language from the dropdown
  4. Save - your members see the updated UI immediately

The admin dashboard stays in English for now, but your members get the fully translated version of Heartbeat. Use the Preview As Member feature for a closer look at the member experience.

What Heartbeat Translates

Heartbeat translates the product UI and not your content.

Translated Not translated
Navigation, buttons, and labels Your posts, lessons, and docs
Checkout and payment flows Course content you've authored
Course progress indicators Event descriptions you've written
Notifications and emails Channel names you've set
Event RSVP flows
Search results and filters
Settings and account pages
Modals and system prompts

How public-facing pages work

For pages that are live outside your community, like the login page, landing pages, and checkout flows, Heartbeat automatically detects your visitor's browser or device language and render accordingly. New members see a localized experience before they've even joined.

If a member's browser language isn't supported, those pages default to English.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this translate my posts, lessons, or documents? No. This feature covers Heartbeat's product UI only. Your authored content stays in the language you wrote it in.

Will members all see the same language? Yes. Inside your community, everyone sees the language you've set in General Settings. Outside your community (login, landing pages), each visitor sees the language that matches their browser or device.

Is the mobile app translated too? Yes. iOS and Android are fully translated with the same language support as web.

Something looks mistranslated, what should I do? Reach out to our Support team with a screenshot and we'll look into it!

My language isn't supported, how can I request that it's added? You can reach out to our Support team directly. We want to keep expanding the languages Heartbeat supports, so make your voice heard!
