Can I limit access to a document?

  • Updated

Yes — but access control is set at the section level, not for individual documents.

This gives you more flexibility, since most communities use documents to organize groups of resources (like templates, guides, or lesson materials) and want to control access at the group level.

How to limit access to a document section:

  1. Go to the Documents section in your community

  2. Find the section you want to limit

  3. Click the three-dot menu next to that section

  4. Click Edit

  5. In the “Update Section” popup, scroll down and toggle Limit Access

  6. Use the search field to select:

    • Individual users

    • Access groups

    • Roles (e.g. Admins, Moderators)

    • Paid offers

This is a great way to:

  • Gate premium documents for paid members

  • Offer unique resources to specific subgroups

  • Share admin-only internal documentation

Once set, only the people or groups you specify will be able to view that section and the documents inside it.
