How to Create, Edit and Delete Channels

  • Updated

Create a Channel

  1. Click on the 3 dots to the right of the category name. In the screenshot below, the 3 dots are to the right of Everyone.

  2. Choose channel type of your choice

  3. Create Channel

    • Select a Channel Type

      • Threads - Users can create posts, comment on posts, and threading for comments.

      • Chat - Users can send messages, ideal for text-based, synchronous communication.

      • Voice - Users can communicate with other members over audio and video.

    • Name the channel

    • Emoji - Click on the emoji to the left of the channel name to select the emoji you want for the channel. Emojis can't be selected for voice channels - it's automatically set to a speaker 🔈.

    • Add a Description (optional).

      • Note: The channel description is currently not displayed anywhere.

    • Set as Default Channel - If this is toggled on, then all members of the community will automatically be added to the channel. It will appear on the left side channel list.

      • Note: Voice channels do not have this toggle. They are automatically a default channel.

    • Set as Private Channel - For threads or chat channels, this will appear when Set as Default Channel is toggled off. For voice channels, it is already an option. Toggle this on if you want the channel to be private and only accessible to particular members, groups, or roles.

    • Set as Read Only (applies to Thread Channels) - Toggle this on to make it so that only members with the Create Channels permission can post in the thread channel. Other members can still comment and react.

    • Set Attendee Limit (applies to Voice Channels) - Toggle this on if you'd like to set a maximum occupancy limit for the voice room.

Edit Channel

To make changes to a channel (ex. change channel name or set as private), click the 3 dots to the right of the channel name and then click Edit.

Note: You are only able to change the channel type if there are no existing posts/chats in the channel.

Delete Channel

To delete a channel, click the 3 dots next to the channel name, and then Delete. You'll be asked to confirm that you want to delete the channel.
