Setting a clear tone from day one is critical — and Heartbeat makes it easy to require every new member to agree to your Code of Conduct before entering your community.
Step-by-Step: Add a Code of Conduct to Onboarding
-
Go to the Documents tab in your community sidebar.
-
Either:
-
Use the default Code of Conduct template in the Initial Resources section
-
Or create your own document with your community’s rules and expectations
-
-
Once your document is ready, click the Settings icon in the top-right corner.
-
In the left sidebar, go to Onboarding.
-
Scroll down and toggle on the Require Code of Conduct option.
-
Select the document you'd like to use.
-
Click Save Changes.
Use the document’s description and formatting tools to make expectations clear — including what’s encouraged, what’s off-limits, and any consequences.
What New Members See
-
During onboarding, members will be shown the full document.
-
They’ll be required to click “Agree” before entering your community.
-
The document remains accessible later via your community's Documents section.
