When a member chooses to leave your Heartbeat community, they’ll also have the option to permanently delete their personal data. This article explains exactly what gets deleted — and what doesn't — so you know how it affects your community.
How Members Leave & Delete Their Data
-
Members go to their Account Settings (top-right corner → "Settings").
-
Scroll down and click "Leave this community."
-
They’ll see an optional checkbox to delete their personal information.
If that option is selected, Heartbeat will permanently delete:
-
Posts they’ve created
-
Comments they've written
-
Chat messages and DMs
-
Any scheduled posts
-
Any active subscriptions they hold (these will be canceled)
What Does Not Get Deleted
Some content tied to the community's structure or shared experience stays intact, even if the member deletes their personal data:
-
Channels they created
-
Events they created
-
Documents they uploaded
-
Courses they created
We preserve these to avoid disrupting the overall experience for remaining members.
This deletion process is permanent and irreversible — and designed to protect member privacy without breaking your community.
