How to Connect Your Existing Website to Heartbeat

  • Updated

If you already have a website — maybe built on Webflow, Squarespace, or WordPress — and you want to link it to your Heartbeat community, we’ve got you covered.

This guide walks you through how to:

  1. ✅ Host your community on a custom subdomain (like community.yoursite.com)

  2. 🔐 Add a Login button to your website

  3. ✨ Add a Sign Up button that routes to your Heartbeat signup page

1. Set up your Heartbeat community on a custom subdomain

To keep your website intact and make the community feel like a natural extension of your brand, we recommend setting up your Heartbeat community on a custom subdomain like:

  • community.yoursite.com

  • academy.yoursite.com

  • school.yoursite.com

🔧 Follow this setup guide. You’ll need to add a couple DNS records on your domain provider — it usually takes ~5 minutes.

2. Add a Login Button to Your Website

This will let returning members quickly log back into the community.

Use this format for your login link:

https://app.heartbeat.chat/[your-url-slug]

If a user is logged in, this will take them straight into the community. If not, it will take them to the login page.

Example:
If your subdomain is community.yoursite.com, then your login URL will be:

https://community.yoursite.com

3. Add a Sign Up Button Linked to a Heartbeat Signup Page

To handle new member onboarding, you’ll want to create a signup page inside Heartbeat and link your website’s “Sign Up” or “Get Started” button to it.

How to create a signup page:

  1. Go to SettingsSignup Pages in your Heartbeat admin panel

  2. Click Create Signup Page

  3. Set a title like “Main Signup Page”

  4. Choose:

    • Role (most often “Member” or “User”)

    • Free access group(s) — optional

    • Paid offer(s) — optional

  5. Click Create, then copy the generated link

Paste this URL into your website’s Sign Up button.

What your website setup might look like

Most people follow standard web conventions — similar to sites like Spotify:

Summary

  • Use a custom subdomain to host your community (e.g. community.yoursite.com)

  • Set up a Login link pointing to that URL

  • Set up a Sign Up link pointing to a Heartbeat Signup Page

With this setup, your Heartbeat community will feel like a seamless part of your brand’s experience.
