When to Use Native Video Hosting in Heartbeat

  • Updated

✅ Why use Heartbeat’s native video hosting?

There are three main reasons creators choose native video hosting on Heartbeat:

1. Better control across all devices

When you use Heartbeat’s native video player, playback is consistent across mobile, desktop, and tablet.

YouTube/Vimeo/Wistia embeds are external platforms — and we can’t guarantee how they’ll behave inside Heartbeat. Sometimes they resize oddly, don’t autoplay, or create UI issues — especially on mobile.

2. Built-in download protection (especially useful for courses)

If you're building courses, you probably don’t want people downloading or pirating your content.Heartbeat’s native videos:

  • Only load for members who have access to the content
  • Are protected with download-prevention logic
  • Don’t expose public video URLs

This keeps your content safe and behind your community’s paywall.

3. Auto-transcription + search discoverability

Every native video you upload into Heartbeat is automatically transcribed (in multiple languages). These transcriptions are:

  • Viewable inside the course
  • Searchable across the entire community

This means if a member searches for a phrase you said in a video, we’ll pull up that video alongside posts, docs, or events — making your content more discoverable over time.

💰 Pricing

Native video hosting is an add-on to your Heartbeat plan.

  • $19/month for 50 hours of video storage
  • Need more? Add another 50 hours for an additional $19/month
  • Want bulk rates? Reach out to our team »

🤔 So when should you embed externally?

Use YouTube, Vimeo, etc. if:

  • You’re embedding marketing content or public-facing videos
  • You already have videos hosted elsewhere and want to reuse them
  • You’re prioritizing views or engagement on the platform (e.g. growing a YouTube channel)

But for private content, courses, or paid member-only experiences, native video hosting is the best way to go.
