How to Set Up Upsells in Heartbeat

Upsells in Heartbeat allow you to offer additional paid products to members during or after their initial purchase, helping you increase revenue and provide more value to your community members.

What are Upsells?

Upsells a way to promote your Offer to members that aren't yet a part of it. 

If you have an existing Offer that enables access to exclusive content in your community, turning on upsells will allow you to display an upgrade message to your members and even promote your more expensive tiers.

Where Do Upsells Appear?

When an Offer has upsells enabled, they will be displayed to a member any time they want to access content that is exclusive to that Offer.

Upsells will display the corresponding Offer or tier name and a lock 🔒 icon. Members can then press the call to action button (in the example below, the RSVP button) to purchase access.

How to Create an Upsell

Step 1: Configure the Upsell

  1. Go to Settings > Payments > Offers
  2. Select the offer you want to add an upsell to and press the 3-dot menu to edit it 
  3. Go to the Offer Setup step
  4. Toggle on "Turn on in-community upsells"
  5. Customize the upsell and save your changes

Step 2 (Optional) Configure additional Upsells 

Once you have created your first upsell, you can press "Add Another Upsell" to create one specific to an existing tier. 

Sample Use Case

In the example below:

  • Members who aren't a part of this Offer will see the default upsell
  • Members in the Basic Tier will see a separate upsell for the Pro Tier

Frequently Asked Questions

The upsell isn't showing to members

For the upsell to show to members, ensure that:

  • The upsell toggle is turned ON
  • The upsell offer is published (not in draft)
  • You're testing with the correct offer flow
  • The member doesn't already have access to the upsell offer

I want to remove an upsell from my Offer, how do I do it?

  1. Go to Settings > Payments > Offers
  2. Select the offer you want to add an upsell to and press the 3-dot menu to edit it 
  3. Go to the Offer Setup step
  4. Toggle off "Turn on in-community upsells" and save your changes

Why can't I see the icon that indicates an upsell is set up even though my Offer has upsells turned on?

The upsells pill will now only show for users that have the "Manage Community Settings" permission. Learn more about roles and permissions.
