Pre-approved Sign Up Pages let you create an invitation-only community where only people on your list can join. This is perfect for beta launches, application-based communities, or any time you want to control exactly who gets access.
How to Set Up a Pre-Approved Sign Up Page
- Navigate to Sign Up in your admin sidebar
- Click Create Sign Up Page
- Select the access groups you want new members to be added to
- Under access type, choose Pre-approved
- Complete your page customization (name, description, colors)
- Click Create Sign Up Page
Your pre-approved sign up page is now created, but no one can join yet until you add them to your invitation list.
Adding Members to Your Pre-Approved List
- Go to Settings > Manage Members > Sign Up Pages
Click the 3-dot menu on your Sign Up Page to select the Manage Invites button
Enter email addresses (one per line or separated by commas)
- Choose whether to send invitation emails:
- If you want members to receive an email with the sign up link, press "Add & Send Invitation Email"
If you prefer to share the link manually without sending emails, press the caret ^ and click on "Add (without sending email)"
Checking Who Has Signed Up
To see which people from your invitation list have already joined:
- Go to Settings > Manage Members > Sign Up Pages
- Click Manage Invites again
- Check the status column for each email:
- Invited = Invited but haven't signed up yet
- Joined = Successfully joined your community
You'll need to click back into Manage Invites each time you want to check on your list - the status updates automatically as people sign up.
What Happens When Someone Tries to Sign Up
- If their email is on your pre-approved list: They can complete the sign up process
- If their email is NOT on your list: They'll see an error message and cannot join
- Anyone can view the sign up page with the link, but only pre-approved emails can actually register
Adding More People Later
You can add new emails to your invitation list at any time by going back to Manage Invites and adding more addresses. There's no limit to how many people you can pre-approve.
