Tips on using Pulse, Heartbeat's AI assistant
Be specific about what you want. Pulse will always try to answer, but specific requests get better results.
Instead of: "Help me make money from my community"
Say: "I want to offer a $49/month membership. What groups do I need first, and can you help me create the offer?"
You don't have to do everything in one message. Start broad, then drill in:
"What's a good channel structure for a fitness coaching community?"
"Okay, let's build that. Create those channels now."
"Can you also set up a welcome workflow that DMs new members on join?"
Tell Pulse what you already have. It can read your community data before acting:
"Look at my existing channels first, then suggest what's missing for a paid community."
Review the action before confirming. Pulse shows you every change before applying it. Take a moment to read the summary — if something looks wrong, say so:
"Don't create that as an evergreen course — I want it cohort-based."
Ask for strategy, not just execution. Pulse knows Heartbeat best practices deeply:
"What's the most common mistake people make when setting up their first offer?"
"I have 50 members but nobody's engaging. What would you investigate first?"
Common Use Cases & Prompt Ideas
Setting Up Your Community
Build out the structural foundation of your community.
"I'm building a community for yoga teachers. Suggest a channel structure and create it for me."
"Set my community up with a welcome channel (read-only for announcements), a general chat, and a resource library section."
"Update my community branding — change the primary color to #3B82F6 and update the community description."
"What groups should I create for a paid community with free and premium tiers?"
Building Courses
Create courses from scratch — Pulse can scaffold out modules and lessons based on a topic.
"Create a beginner photography course with 4 modules. Include 3–4 lessons per module with placeholder content I can edit."
"I want a cohort-based course called 'Launch Your Community in 30 Days' that runs every quarter. Set it up with 4 weekly modules."
"Add a new module to my existing course on SEO basics. Include lessons on keyword research, on-page optimization, and link building."
"What's the best structure for a 6-week coaching program? Should it be evergreen or cohort-based?"
"Create a free preview lesson in my course so potential students can see what it's like before buying."
Creating Events
Set up events — from casual community hangouts to ticketed live workshops.
"Create a free weekly Q&A event every Tuesday at 2pm ET, community-only, in my voice channel."
"Create a paid workshop on March 20 at 6pm ET via Zoom with two ticket types: General ($29) and VIP ($79 with recording access)."
"I have an upcoming launch webinar on April 5. Set it up as a public event so non-members can RSVP."
"Create a recurring monthly community call, first Monday of each month at noon ET."
Monetizing Your Community
Set up offers, memberships, and pricing structures.
"I want to charge $49/month for access to my premium community. Set up an offer with a monthly and annual option (give the annual a 20% discount)."
"Create a multi-tier membership: Basic ($29/month) with access to channels, and Pro ($79/month) with channels + courses + weekly calls."
"I want to sell my course as a one-time purchase for $197. Walk me through the setup."
"What's the difference between a single-tier and multi-tier offer? Which should I use?"
"I want to test demand before launching — help me create a waitlist that collects a $47 deposit."
Automating Member Engagement
Set up workflows so the right thing happens automatically.
"Create a welcome sequence for new members: send a DM on day 1 welcoming them, and a follow-up email on day 3 pointing them to the best channels to start."
"Set up a workflow that sends a congratulations popup when someone completes my course, then adds them to a 'Graduates' badge group."
"I want to re-engage members who haven't logged in for 30 days. Create an automated group for inactive members and a workflow that sends them a 'we miss you' email."
"When someone RSVPs to any event, send them a DM the day before as a reminder."
"Create an onboarding workflow triggered when someone joins my premium group: send a welcome email, a DM with getting started tips, and a popup on their first login."
Setting Up Member Onboarding
Control what new members see when they first join.
"Update my default onboarding flow to ask two questions: what brought them here, and what's their biggest goal."
"I have two membership tiers. Set up different onboarding profiles for each — Basic members should answer one question; Pro members should answer three."
"Add an intro channel prompt to my onboarding so new members introduce themselves in #introductions."
"Make profile photos required during onboarding — it increases connection."
Creating Groups for Access Control
Groups control who can see what. Pulse can build the right group structure.
"I want a 'VIP Members' badge group that shows up next to their names. Create it and tell me how to add people."
"Create an automated group that includes all members who joined more than 30 days ago but have never posted."
"Set up the groups I need for a community with a free tier and a paid tier, then lock my premium channels to paid members only."
"What visibility setting should I use for my course group — profile, badge, or hidden?"
Writing and Posting Content
Draft threads for your channels — Pulse will schedule them so you can review before they go live.
"Write an announcement post welcoming members to the new month, mentioning the upcoming events and asking what people are working on. Post it to my #announcements channel."
"Write a short motivational post for #general that fits the tone of a fitness coaching community."
"Create a pinned getting-started post for my #start-here channel that tells new members the 3 most important things to do first."
Building a Knowledge Base
Create and organize docs for your community's resource library.
"Create a document section called 'Getting Started' and add a welcome guide with an outline I can fill in."
"Set up a resource hub with three sections: Getting Started, Tools & Templates, and Community Guidelines."
"Create a community guidelines document in my Docs section."
Strategy and Advice
Pulse can act as a strategic advisor, not just a builder.
"I'm launching a new paid community for freelance designers. What's the minimum setup I should have before opening it?"
"My members join but don't engage. What are the most common reasons this happens, and what should I try first?"
"I want to convert my free community to paid. Walk me through the best approach."
"What workflows should every community have set up from day one?"
"I'm getting churn after month one. What does that usually signal, and what can I build in Heartbeat to address it?"
"What's a realistic pricing strategy for my course if I'm just starting out and don't have testimonials yet?"
Tips for Complex Tasks
For multi-step builds, let Pulse lead. If you want a full monetized community setup, start with:
"I'm building a paid community for fitness coaches from scratch. Let's set it up together — what do you need to know first?"
Pulse will ask questions, fill in what it already knows, and guide you through the setup step by step.
Check before confirming big changes. Actions like deleting content or making an offer live are harder to undo. Read the action summary carefully.
If Pulse gets something wrong, just say so. It won't be defensive:
"That's not right — I wanted the Pro tier to cost $99, not $79. Fix that."
Ask for the reasoning when you're unsure. Pulse can explain why it's recommending something:
"Why are you suggesting I use a single-tier offer here instead of multi-tier?"
