Pages: how to build and publish a custom landing page

  • Updated

With Pages, you can build a fully custom landing page for your community. Set the tone for your branding - Pages will likely be the first thing visitors see when they try to join your community. A solid landing page is crucial element to draw in visitors and increase conversions.

Where to find Pages

Go to Settings → Content → Pages in your community’s admin dashboard. From there you can create a new Page or manage existing ones. Page limits depend on your plan: 1 on Build, 15 on Grow and unlimited on Scale. Archived Pages don't count toward the limit.

How to create a new Page

Click New Page, then tell Pulse what you’re building:

  • Mission – what the page should accomplish (e.g. "convert visitors into paying members for my fitness coaching program")
  • Style – describe your brand in your own words, or paste the URL of a site you like as design inspiration (this borrows the look and feel, not the content – it doesn’t import your own site)

Pulse generates a complete page in minutes. From there, refine it with left-click or right-click (Pulse) edits, as described below.

How can I edit content in Pages?

Everything on a Page is editable. There are two ways to make changes:

  • Left-click – edit text, buttons, images, and videos directly, without Pulse.
  • Right-click – open Pulse for bigger changes: design, layout, adding or removing sections, and motion.

Edit directly with left-click

Hover over any element and it highlights. Left-click to edit it in place.

  1. Edit text – Left-click a heading, paragraph, or button, type your change, and confirm. The page updates instantly.
  2. Text stays as written – Button labels and prices written into the page's text don't change when you edit your Offer. Only details linked to your Offer, like its price, update on their own, and left-clicking one tells you it's tied to your Offer. Update fixed text with left-click, or right-click it if left-click doesn't select it.
  3. Change where a button goes – Buttons that start sign up or checkout, or scroll down to your pricing, are set by the Page itself, so left-clicking them only changes their text. To send one somewhere else, right-click it and describe the change to Pulse, for example "Make this button open https://yourwebsite.com instead of scrolling to the pricing section". A button can open an outside website as long as you give Pulse the full address starting with https://.
  4. Swap an image – Left-click an image to reuse one you’ve uploaded before, or choose Stock Photos, search a term, and select an image.
  5. Add a video – Left-click a video slot to upload a video or select one you’ve already uploaded. Only native (uploaded) video is supported – YouTube, Vimeo, and Loom embeds are not currently available in Pages.

Make bigger changes with right-click (Pulse)

For anything beyond editing existing content – changing the design, adding a section, removing a section, or adding motion – right-click the area you want to change. Pulse opens next to it, and you describe what you want. On a Mac trackpad, right-click is a two-finger click.

Examples:

  • “Make this button green.”
  • “Add a section below this for a video.”

Pulse reads the full page, matches its existing design, and implements the change. Each Pulse change creates a new version.

To close the Pulse panel and return to direct editing, click outside it or press Escape.

Design changes happen in the Page Editor. The Pulse in your main chat can create, rename or archive a Page and change its URL or connected Sign Up Link, but for design changes it sends you to the Page Editor.

Tip: Pulse won’t automatically pick up your website’s colors or fonts from a URL. For the best results, describe your brand style directly in your prompt – for example, “use deep navy and gold with a clean sans-serif font.”

Can I revert changes to an earlier version?

Every change is saved as a version. If you don’t like a change – from left-click or Pulse – open the version history and revert to an earlier version.

How can I publish my Page?

Note: Every Page has its own URL. If you built this Page to replace a landing page you previously shared through a Sign Up Link, your old link will not point to the new Page. Update your link wherever you share it (link in bio, social profiles, email signatures, ads) so visitors land on your new Page.

Before publishing, set your page details:

  1. Open the three-dot menu.
  2. Select Update settings.
  3. Edit the Url to make it cleaner and more readable.

To publish:

  1. Click Publish. Your page goes live immediately. Publish sends the version open in the editor, so to publish an earlier one, pick it from Switch version (the history icon in the toolbar) first.
  2. Click Preview to see your live URL and how the page looks to visitors.
  3. Share the URL – visitors can sign up for your community from your Page.

Note: Your Page’s URL always follows the format yourdomain.com/p/your-slug. If this Page isn’t set as your custom domain’s default landing page (Settings → Community → Domains), visiting the bare domain without /p/your-slug will show whatever page is set as default — not this one.

FAQ

Is Pages the same as Sign Up Links? No. Pages is your custom landing page. Sign Up Links (previously Sign Up Pages) handle tiers, pricing, and access groups.

Can I make edits after a Page is published? After your page is live, you can keep editing. Changes are staged, not live – your published page won’t change until you click Publish again. Experiment freely and push updates only when you’re ready.

Will my edits go live as soon as I make them? Only before your first publish. Once a page is published, new edits stay staged until you publish again.

Can I undo a change? Yes. Open version history and revert to any previous version.

I shared a link through a Sign Up Link before. Do I need to update it? Yes. Pages have their own URLs, so your new Page won’t take over the old link automatically. Swap the old link for your new Page URL everywhere you’ve shared it. Visitors who use the old link won’t see your new Page.

Can my Page show at my custom domain? Yes. Your Page’s URL follows the format yourcommunity.heartbeat.chat/p/your-slug by default. To serve it at a custom domain, make sure your domain is connected in Settings → Community → Domains and that your Page is set as the default landing page there.

Can I delete a Page? Yes, once it's archived. Archive it from the three-dot menu, switch the Pages list to Archived, then select Delete from its three-dot menu. Deleting can't be undone.

The page editor is showing an error and won’t open. What should I do? Try opening version history and reverting to an earlier version – this resolves most editor errors. If the issue persists, reach out to support.

Does Pages support embedded videos? Yes, Pages supports embedding Native Video - at this time, it isn’t possible to embed external sources like Youtube, Vimeo or Loom.

My published Page stopped loading. What happened? A Page only loads when its connected Sign Up Link matches the Page's type. If a Page built as a free sign up page is connected to a Sign Up Link that you later switch to a paid Offer, the live Page stops loading for visitors. Your edits are still there. To fix it, open the Page, ask Pulse to switch it to a paid Page for that Offer, review it, then click Publish and choose the Sign Up Link under Connected sign up link. Switching the type unpublishes the Page until you publish it again.

Why isn't my Sign Up Link in the Connected sign up link list? The list only shows Sign Up Links that match the Page's type: free links for a free sign up Page, Offer links for a paid Page, and waitlist links for a waitlist Page. To use a different kind of link, ask Pulse to switch the Page's type first.

Can I get the four design options again for an existing Page? No, they're only offered when you create a Page. To start over with new designs, create a new Page. On Build, archive your current Page first (it goes offline right away), then set the new Page's Url to the old one.
