Docs gives your community a structured space for written content — guides, references, resources, and anything members need to find and return to.
Common uses include getting started guides, codes of conduct, resource libraries, tactical guides, and curated reading lists.
Sections
Docs are organised into sections. Each section appears as a card on the main Docs page and acts as the top-level container for related documents.
To create a section:
- Go to Docs in your community sidebar
- Click + Create Document Section
- Give the section a name and optional description
- Set access permissions (see below)
- After saving, click into the section to add a header image
📝 Note
For best results, use a header image with a 2:1 aspect ratio (width:height) and a minimum size of 384×192px.
Permissions
Permissions are set at both the section and individual document level, so you can control exactly who sees and edits what.
Section permissions apply to everything inside that section by default:
- Edit — members can create, edit, move, and delete documents in the section
- View — members can read documents but not make changes; recommended for most members
Document permissions can be set on individual documents to override the section defaults — for example, to restrict a specific document to a particular group or role within a wider section.
You can scope permissions to specific roles and groups in both cases.
Adding and organising documents
To add a document to a section:
- Click into the section card
- Hover to the right of the section name and click +
- Give the document a name — add an emoji if you like
To edit a document: Inside a document, add content blocks by clicking + or typing / to open the block menu.
To create a child document: Hover over the document name in the left sidebar and click +. Child documents sit nested under the parent and are useful for breaking longer content into organised sub-pages.
Document options
Access these from the three-dot menu on any document:
- Delete — permanently removes the document
- Transfer — moves the document to a different section
Frequently asked questions
Can I restrict a single document without restricting the whole section? Yes. Document-level permissions let you override section defaults for individual docs — useful when most of a section is open but specific documents should only be visible to certain groups or roles.
Can I embed videos or other media in a document? Yes. You can embed HTML, videos, and other media using the block menu inside a document. See How to embed in documents for a full walkthrough.
Why can't a member see a document section I just created? Check if this Document section is shared with their Access Group. Alternatively, if the document section is empty, it will not display to any members, only Administrators.
