Moving Your Community to a New Stripe Account

If you need to switch your community to a new Stripe account — for example, because your business information, legal entity, or bank details have changed — Heartbeat can disconnect your old Stripe account and help you migrate your active subscriptions to the new one.

This is different from a first-time Stripe connection or a standard payment import. Because it involves disconnecting a live payment account, the steps below must be followed in order to avoid interrupting your members' access or billing.

Before you start: This process is partly handled by our team. To begin, contact Heartbeat support and let us know you'd like to move to a new Stripe account.

Step-by-step

1. We remove the old Stripe account

Once you reach out, Heartbeat will remove Stripe from your community on our end. This disconnects your existing Stripe account so you can connect the new one.

2. Connect your new Stripe account

Immediately after the old account is removed, connect your new Stripe account with your updated business information. Doing this right away keeps the gap in billing as short as possible.

3. Migrate your payments

Once the new account is connected, run the payment migration to bring your active subscriptions over. Follow the full walkthrough here: Import and Migrate Existing Stripe Subscriptions to Heartbeat Payments.

4. Delete the old subscriptions in Stripe

After the migration completes successfully, delete the old subscriptions from your previous Stripe account so members aren't billed twice.

⚠️ Do NOT delete any Offers when setting up the new account. Your Heartbeat Offers must stay in place for the migration to map correctly. Only the old subscriptions in Stripe should be removed.

What your members will experience

During the transition, your members will retain access to the community — they won't be locked out. However, please note:

  • Members will not be able to access their billing settings until the migration is complete.
  • Temporarily cancel any paid events during the transition, since payment processing is in flux while accounts are being switched.

If anything looks off during the move — duplicate subscriptions, members reporting billing issues, or migration errors — reach out to Heartbeat support before deleting anything in Stripe.
