What are Heartbeat's payment processing fees?

  • Updated

Heartbeat charges a processing fee on each payment your members make through Heartbeat Payments. The rate depends on your plan.

On a legacy plan or an AppSumo license, your rate may be different from the table above. Your billing page always shows the rate that applies to you.

To check your own rate: go to Settings > System > Billing →

This is not the only fee on a payment

Two separate things can come out of one member payment, and they are easy to confuse:

  1. Heartbeat's processing fee. The percentage in the table above. Deducted automatically at the time of the payment, before the money reaches your payout.
  2. Stripe's own per-transaction fee. Charged directly by Stripe, set by Stripe, and not something Heartbeat controls. See Stripe's pricing for your country's rate.

How it shows up in Stripe

Heartbeat's fee appears on your Stripe statements and payout details as "Heartbeat Chat, Inc. application fee". It is deducted before payout, so the amount that lands in your bank account is already net of it. You do not receive a separate bill for it.

If you need an itemised record of these fees for tax or accounting, contact the Support team and we can produce a statement for a date range you choose.

What happens when you change plan

When you upgrade or downgrade, your new rate applies straight away to new payments and to member subscriptions created after the change.

Member subscriptions that were already running keep the rate they were created with, so after an upgrade you may still see the older rate on some renewals for a while.
