How can we help?

Can I live stream in Heartbeat?

Heartbeat does not have a dedicated live streaming or broadcast feature. Live sessions run over voice and video, in a Voice Channel, a temporary Voice Room, or an Event.

Live and interactive: voice and video

Live audio, video, and screen sharing. Anyone with access can speak or turn their camera on.

Three ways members get into one:

  • Voice Channel. A permanent Channel set to voice. Members click it in the sidebar, and it is always available.

  • Voice Room. A temporary space anyone can start from the sidebar with + Create Voice Room. It is removed once everyone leaves. Admins can restrict this under Settings > People > Roles by disabling the Start Voice Rooms permission.

  • Event. An Event with its location set to Heartbeat generates a temporary Voice Room for that Event.

Up to 256 participants at once, with up to 16 video feeds. No time limit, and no limit on how many calls run at once. Admins can mute and remove participants.

The mobile app supports audio only. Members on mobile can hear and speak, but will not see video.

Presenter format: Zoom on an Event

Set an Event's location to Zoom and Heartbeat generates the meeting link, syncs the recording back, and tracks attendance. Use this when you want a presenter-and-audience format, or a recording to share afterwards.

Pre-recorded instead: Native Video Hosting

Upload the video to Heartbeat and it streams to members with no download link and an auto-generated transcript. Use this for anything that does not need to happen live.
