A member can reach a Course in two ways. Being in the Course's own Access Group enrols them. Being in another Access Group that includes the Course lets them see it and start it themselves.
The Course Access Group
Every Course gets its own Access Group when you create it. You'll find it in Settings > People > Access Groups, marked with a 📚 icon. Members in this group are enrolled, and their progress is tracked. If the Course runs in cohorts, members are enrolled into a cohort's group, which sits under the Course Access Group.
Access through another Access Group
Any other Access Group can include the Course. In Settings > People > Access Groups, open the 3-dot menu on the Group, click Edit, and add the Course under Courses in the Access section.
Members of that Group can see the Course and its lessons, but they aren't enrolled yet. They'll see a Start Course button, and clicking it enrols them.
One Access Group can open several Courses this way. It's also how you release Courses over time: add more Courses to the Group whenever you're ready, for example 30 and 60 days after launch, and members see them straight away.
Which kind of access an Offer gives
An Offer grants the Access Groups attached to it, so the Offer decides which experience buyers get.
- To enrol buyers automatically, sell the Course itself: create the Offer as a Digital Product, choose Course as the Product Type, then choose the Course. This grants the Course Access Group.
- To cover several Courses with one Offer, attach an Access Group that includes all of them, the same way you'd bundle a Course with a paid membership. Buyers see each Course and click Start Course to begin.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does a member see "Could not find course"? They've opened a Course that none of their Access Groups give them, often from an old link. Add them to the Course Access Group or to a Group that includes the Course. Clicking Courses in the left sidebar takes them back to the Courses they have.
A member finished one Course but can't see the next one. Why? Access comes from their Access Groups, so finishing a Course doesn't open others on its own. Check that the next Course is included in a Group they belong to.
