When you share a Heartbeat link on Facebook, LinkedIn, X, or in messaging apps like WhatsApp and Slack, the preview card shows your community's name, description and image. Links to an Event, Course or Resource show that item's own name, description and image instead.
What each link shows
Community links
This covers your community URL, your custom domain, Sign Up Links, Pages, and links to posts and Channels.
- Title: your community name, from Settings > Community > General > Name.
- Description: the Description field in Settings > Community > General. If it's empty, the preview says "Join [community name]".
- Image: the Splash image in Settings > Community > Theme. If you haven't uploaded one, your logo is used.
Event links
The preview shows the Event's name, description and cover image.
Course links
The preview shows the Course name, the Course Description, and the Course thumbnail. If there's no thumbnail, the cover image is used. For cohort-based Courses, the description comes from the cohort the link opens.
Resource links
The preview shows the Resource name, description and cover image. This applies both to links inside your community and to the Resource's public page.
If an Event, Course or Resource has no description or image, its preview uses your community's.
Previews show an item's name, description and image even when the item is private or paid. Members still need access to open the content, but anyone who sees the shared link can read the title, description and image.
Frequently Asked Questions
I changed my image, but the old preview still shows. Why? Social platforms save a link's preview the first time it's shared. To refresh it, paste the link into Facebook's Sharing Debugger or LinkedIn's Post Inspector and run it again.
Can I set a different preview for a Page or Sign Up Link? Not at the moment. Pages and Sign Up Links use your community's name, description and image.
Do links to a post show the post? No. Links to posts and Channels show your community's preview.
