Free trials are a valuable feature that allows potential members to try out your offers before they commit to a paid subscription. This guide walks you through setting up free trials, explains their limitations, and describes what members will see during the process.
How to Set Up Free Trials
Navigate to Free Trial Settings:
Go to Admin Settings in the bottom left corner of your dashboard.
Click on the Offers section.
Create an Offer:
Select Create Offer and add tiers, titles, and descriptions. These titles and descriptions are user-facing and will appear on the payments and checkout page.
Set Up the Free Trial:
Toggle on the free trial option in the Payment Settings on your Pricing screen offer.
Choose the duration of the free trial.
You can either require credit card information upfront or allow members to set it up later.
Free Trial Limitations
Default Pricing Option for Freemium Offers:
Free trials are automatically enabled as the default pricing option for freemium offers.
One Free Trial Per Offer:
Members can only redeem one free trial per offer. This ensures fairness and prevents members from abusing the free trial feature.
Customizable Free Trial Days for Each Tier:
If your offer includes multiple tiers, you can set different free trial durations for each tier. For example:
Tier 1: 7-day trial
Tier 2: 14-day trial
Tier 3: 30-day trial
To enable this option:
Notifications for Free Trial End:
Notifications or emails when members finish their free trial are not automatically sent.
To set this up manually, use Stripe:
Go to Admin Settings > Payment Confirmation.
Click on Payment Confirmation Emails, which will redirect you to your Stripe account.
Configure Stripe to send notification emails before a payment is made.
What Community Members See
Community members will see the number of free trial days on the payments page.
The checkout page clearly states the number of days free before a charge is made. Members can also see the total pricing and the exact date they will start being charged.
Additional Notes
Free trials can only be offered for a set number of days. It is not possible to provide unlimited free trials.
Trial settings can be updated anytime within the offerβs configuration, but changes will only apply to new members.
