You can customize how your community looks, how members find their way around, and what new members go through when they join. Everything below is under Settings, grouped into Community, Content, People, Revenue, Workflows and System.
Branding
- Name, description and language: Settings > Community > General. Language sets the member-facing text on desktop and mobile. See How to Set Your Community's Language.
- Logo and splash image: Settings > Community > Theme. The logo is square and the splash image is 2:1. See Customizing your community theme.
- Colors: Settings > Community > Theme. Start from a template, or set your own primary color, background color and gradient. You can also apply the gradient to the sidebar.
- App icon: Settings > Community > Theme. Pick one of seven preset icons. This only applies on iOS.
- Custom domain: Settings > Community > Domains. Connect your own domain and choose which Page or Sign Up Link logged-out visitors land on. See How to Set Up a Custom Domain for Your Community.
- Powered by Heartbeat badge: Settings > Community > General. See Can I remove the Heartbeat branding from my community?.
Navigation and content
- Sidebar: Settings > Community > Sidebar. Turn Courses, Docs, Events, User Directory and Matchups on or off, rename them, limit who sees them, and add your own links. See Can I rename the items on the left sidebar menu? and Can I add a link to the left sidebar menu?.
- Feed: Settings > Community > Sidebar. Choose the default channel, which content types appear and which channels to leave out. See How to customize the community feed.
- Pages: Settings > Content > Pages. Build custom landing pages with Pulse. See Pages: how to build and publish a custom landing page.
- Custom emojis: Settings > Content > Custom Emojis.
Emails
- Sending domain: Settings > Community > Domains. Send community emails from your own domain and name. See How to set up a custom email domain for sending community emails.
- Invitation email and digest note: Settings > Content > Emails. See How can I customize my Invitation Emails? and How to Customize Your Weekly Digest Emails.
Members
- Onboarding: Settings > People > Onboarding. Set the questions new members answer and which of them sort members into groups. You can also ask for social links, a profile picture and location, add a welcome video and a Code of Conduct, and create separate onboarding profiles for different sign-up paths. - Welcome messages: add a Workflow in Settings > People > Onboarding. It runs automatically when someone joins. See How to Set Up Automated Welcome Emails for Your Community.
- Access Groups and Roles: Settings > People. Control who can see which content and what each member can do. See Access Groups Overview and Roles and Permissions in Heartbeat.
- Member profiles and messaging: Settings > Community > General. Choose whether email and location show on profiles, and set direct messaging and GIF rules.
Features only available on Grow and Scale
Everything else in this article is available on all plans (Build, Grow and Scale). These features need a higher plan:
- Grow or Scale: removing the Powered by Heartbeat badge, custom email content, a custom email sending domain, and direct message rules.
- Scale: a branded mobile app.
