Managing Community Access and Visibility
Updated over 4 months ago

Heartbeat offers a range of flexible options to customize your community's visibility and access. Whether you want to create a private, members-only community or a more open and inclusive community for a wider audience, Heartbeat provides the tools to help you manage access levels, set permissions, and create the right environment for your members to thrive and engage effectively.

Community Access Settings

The community access settings in Heartbeat control your community's overall visibility. You can make your community accessible to everyone with your invitation link or restrict it to specific invitees only.

You have two main options for inviting your members to your community: Evergreen or Pre-approved.

  • Evergreen: Anyone who has the link can join the community.

  • Pre-approved: Only email addresses on the pre-approved list can join using the link.

Community Visibility Settings

Choosing the right access level can create the ideal environment for your community's growth and engagement.

Here are some of the options available for configuring community access visibility:

  • Setting Community Access: You can set channels as default, private, or read-only, allowing you to control who can see and participate in specific discussions or content areas.

  • Managing Sidebar Visibility: You can control which channels appear in your community's sidebar, enhancing navigation based on their permissions and roles.

  • Locked Channels or Events for Upsells: Display a lock icon to members who

attempt to access paid channels or events and set up a paywall to join.

  • Default Channels for New Members: Upon joining, new members are automatically added to specific default channels, ensuring they start with the right content and conversations.

  • Custom Landing Pages: Define different landing pages (such as a customized homepage) for new and existing members, guiding them to the most relevant content when they access the community.

These content access settings allow you to create a tailored and engaging experience for your community members while maintaining control over privacy and visibility.
